Tesla’s Robot Could Be the Biggest Product Ever, But China Won’t Make It Easy
Elon Musk is making a bold claim. He says the company’s humanoid robot, Optimus, will become the biggest product in history.

What do you think could be the next technology to change everything? We all know that smart gadgets and other advanced devices have changed the way we live. But now the focus is shifting toward humanoid robots. Many companies are trying hard to win the race and produce these machines for large-scale use. Among them, Tesla believes that it will be at the center of that with its Optimus robot.
Elon Musk is making a bold claim. He says the company’s humanoid robot, Optimus, will become the biggest product in history. And he means bigger than anything, cars, smartphones, everything.
According to Musk, Optimus will be the biggest product of all time by far. He said that nothing will be even close to it, and it will be ten times larger than their next biggest product ever produced.
That’s a huge statement. But Musk isn’t just talking. Tesla is already putting real money and factory space behind it.
Tesla is Rearranging its Own Factory for This
Want to know how committed Tesla is to this new project? They have actually stopped production of two of their car models. They stopped production of the Model S and Model X at their Fremont, California factory. This free space will be used for Optimus production.
The company is already testing the Gen 3 version. They are also figuring out how many robots they can build throughout the year.
What Can Optimus Do?
Now you must be thinking, what can Optimus do? Well, the most talked-about feature of the robot is its hand. The company says that it can move just like a human. Engineers say that the fingers can properly bend, grip, move, and respond, just as a human hand does. They even believe that if the hand is dressed up properly, it will not look like a robot’s hand. They say it looks like a “human in a superhuman suit.”
In robotics, the hardest part is making those hands. Musk also pointed this out. He said that hand dexterity is one of the toughest challenges engineers can face. But he believes that Tesla has an edge here over others.
Why This Matters?
What if these robots become common? If such a thing happens, then its impact can be seen in many places.
For example, we can expect to see robots replacing many jobs that require repetitive work. Here, humans will be performing the work where creativity or thinking is required, while robots will be doing the rest of the tedious work. Likewise, we can see robots working in hospitals alongside healthcare professionals.
For elderly people who are spending their lives alone, these robots can prove to be good support and companions. They can give them company, which can help them spend some quality time.
One of the greatest contributions that robots can make is in factory work. This work requires speed and accuracy. But robots can do all this without getting tired. They can also perform duties over long shifts.
China is the Real Competition
This is what even Elon Musk admitted. He talked about that and said that he honestly feels China would be the biggest competitor for them in the robot market. He said that China is really good at scaling and manufacturing. They are also very strong in AI, so he sees them as by far the biggest competitor in humanoid robot development.
He also said that people in other parts of the world underestimate China. However, things have changed in reality. He called their capabilities “next level” when it comes to doing things faster and on a larger scale.
