Intrinsic Wants Factories to Stop Writing Robot Code
Intrinsic, a robotics company owned by Google’s parent company Alphabet, just showed off a new system that could change how factories work.

Can you imagine setting up a robot without writing complex code? Of course not, because practically it seems impossible, especially for a person with no prior robotics experience. But Intrinsic doesn’t think so. They believe that AI can change that. And they don’t only believe that but are also making efforts to make it possible.
Intrinsic is an Alphabet-owned company (Google’s parent company). They have just shown off a system that can change how factories work. The idea behind it is quite simple. They just want factory workers to use a drag-and-drop method to teach robots. With this new AI-backed system, workers will be able to train robots without any coding knowledge.
During Automate 2026, the company brought its new product, Intrinsic Intelligence Cell. This works on the IntrinsicOS platform. The interesting thing about the platform is that it makes use of AI to do several difficult tasks. It figures out how to move the arm or pick a particular part. Not only this, but it is also trained to plug in a connector without human interference.
What’s more interesting is that during the show, a robot named FANUC was also seen doing electronic assembly work. This robot is also trained to be flexible. That means it can switch between performing multiple jobs on the factory floor. This feature is useful for businesses that make small quantities of different products rather than creating thousands of the same items on a daily basis.
Intrinsic hasn’t stopped yet. They have also teamed up with Trinity Automation and Martin Systems. These companies help businesses set up CNC machines in workshops. That means setting up computer-controlled machines. The goal here is simple. They just want to minimize the dependency on humans. They want to bring this AI-backed robot system into their products so that regular work can be made smoother with the help of robots. This will greatly help workers. They won’t need any coding skills or complex concepts. AI will handle most of the difficult work on their behalf.
A Big Pilot Program Coming Soon
Intrinsic is not doing all this randomly. With Foxconn, Intrinsic is all set to test its technology later this year. And who doesn’t know Foxconn? A manufacturing company that is known for making products for famous brands like Apple. All eyes are now on Intrinsic’s pilot program. This could be one of the biggest real-world tests of what Intrinsic’s system can actually do.
More Opportunities for Developers Worldwide
Don’t know anything about robotics? It’s normal. Intrinsic is doing its best to involve more and more people in robotics. Beyond factories, they are also playing a major role in attracting developers to robotics. Not only developers, but also a person who has no idea of robotics can also benefit from that.
Together with Open Robotics, Intrinsic launched something called the AI for Industry Challenge back in 2025. The contest focuses on one of the trickiest problems in electronics factories: getting robots to handle cables and connectors with the same care a human hand would. That kind of fine, careful movement is very hard for robots to do well.
To attract the best minds, the competition came with an $180,000 prize pool. Teams were free to use popular tools like Gazebo, Google DeepMind’s MuJoCo, and NVIDIA Isaac Sim – all software platforms used to test robots in a virtual world before they ever touch real hardware.
The response was huge. More than 5,000 people signed up from more than 115 countries. So far, eight teams have scored nearly perfect marks in the simulation testing phase.
What’s interesting about the participants is that most of them are not robotics experts. About 93% know how to code in Python and 73% have experience with ROS. Nearly half work in AI, machine learning, or general software development. Only about 14% actually come from the robotics industry.
That tells a broader story. A lot of the talent that could push robotics forward is sitting outside the field right now. And without any doubt, Intrinsic is trying to bring them in.
