Unitree Expands H2 Humanoid Line With H2-X Guardian

New robot demonstrated performing martial arts and staged rescue operations, however, its commercial availability and autonomy are unknown.

HANGZHOU, China -- Unitree Robotics unveiled H2-X, a new variant of its full-size H2 humanoid robot, demonstrating the robot performing martial arts, jumping off of platforms and intervening in staged security and rescue operations.

The Chinese manufacturer revealed a promotional video Oct. 21 titled "H2-X Kung Fu Legend Guardian," expanding its H2 line with a robot presented as being able to perform more physically demanding movements.

In the video, the robot punches and kicks vehicles, performs flips and jumps from a platform marked as 4 meters high. The other scenes show H2-X intervening in a confrontation involving a knife-wielding attacker and lifting the front of a vehicle during a rescue operation.

Unitree says that the movements are genuine and that the video was not sped up. However, the edited video does not confirm whether the movements were performed autonomously, remotely or were programmed.

The company also says that the H2-X can stay standing for approximately eight hours. This number refers to standing endurance and not to continuous walking or other strenuous activities.

The H2-X is an advanced version of Unitree’s H2 model, which stands at 1.82 meters tall, weighs around 70 kilograms and has 31 degrees of freedom.
Unitree hasn't provided any information on whether the H2-X has kept those specs, nor any other commercial information has been released.
The starting price of the basic H2 robot is stated at $29,900 while its battery lasts up to three hours.

The new model adds more variety to Unitree’s presentation of the H2 series, emphasizing more strength, dynamic movements and possible security functions. It should be noted that the security and rescue scenarios have still remained only demonstrations and not proofs of capabilities of the robot.

Moreover, there has been no evidence released by Unitree of the H2-X’s ability to identify threats, operate unpredictably and work safely near people.
