Generalist reaches $3 billion valuation after $200 million funding extension
Sources close to the robotic AI startup say its value increased by half in just two months, pushing its Series B round to $600 million

Generalist, an AI robotics startup that creates artificial intelligence for robots, is now worth $3 billion, having secured almost $200 million in new funding from 8VC. This was raised by the company.
According to a Tech Crunch report, Radical Ventures led a $400 million Series B worth $2 billion in June, which is now being supplemented by the new money. An additional $600 million has been raised by the round through the extension.
The establishment of Generalist in 2024 was led by ex-Google DeepMind researchers Pete Florence, Andy Zeng, and former Boston Dynamics engineer Andrew Barry. Early investors include 8VC, Radical Ventures, Nvidia and union square ventures as well as Bezos Expedition's BeZot space investment and AI researcher Fei-Fei Li.
Generalist is working on a foundation model for artificial intelligence that can adapt to diverse robot hardware, rather than solely building robots. Robots can now learn new tasks with video demonstrations of anywhere from 3 to 12 seconds, according to the company’s latest release of the Gen 1.5 model.
Generalist’s valuation comes as more companies develop general-purpose AI “brains” for robots. For example, Physical Intelligence is reportedly valued at $11 billion, while Skild AI, backed by SoftBank, has a valuation of $14 billion.
Meanwhile, Genesis AI was in talks to raise capital for $3 billion last month.
The company has not provided a commercial deployment timeline for the customer work it has described in the pilot, and its claims about the foundation-model are based on company statements rather than independent testing.
