Can you imagine a hotel where you don’t meet a receptionist while checking in? Your luggage arrives at your room. And above all, you get room service without a knock from a person. Yes, you read it right. This is what the future seems to be, where robots will handle all of this.

A Chinese robotics company, Pudu Robotics, is working on something similar to that. They are working on a hotel where there will be no human staff. Everything will be handled by robots. Whether it’s cleaning the room or carrying the bags of visitors, robots will handle them all. Sounds interesting? There is more to that. You don’t have to wait long for it. As per planning, the hotel will be open to the public in 2027. Pudu Robotics has paired up with Shenzhen Culture & Tourism Industry Development to build this project. This will be a 44-room hotel that is expected to run tests in late 2026. 

What Will Robots Do?

Now you must be thinking, what are these robots capable of doing? This is where it gets interesting. You will not see a single type of robot doing all these tasks. The company has built and trained multiple robots for that.

• BellaBot Pro: The first one is the BellaBot Pro. This robot will handle guests and will also take care of serving coffee to them.
• KettyBot Pro: This robot will be responsible for serving small snacks or other items to guests in their rooms.
• PUDU T300: This robot will play the most important role. It will be responsible for carrying luggage that can weigh up to 300 kg.
• PUDU CC1 Pro and PUDU MT1: These two robots will take care of cleaning tasks. They can mop the floor and are capable of detecting waste.

All of these robots are controlled by Pudu software called PuduFM 1.0 and PuduAgent.

Why Does This Matter?

Most hotels that use robots still keep human staff around for backup. This project is different because the goal is to run the entire hotel with no humans at all.

That makes it one of the biggest real-world tests of this kind of technology in a place where actual guests will be staying. It is not a lab experiment. It is a functioning hotel where people will book rooms and expect proper service.

For the tech world, this is a big deal. Getting dozens of different robots to work together smoothly in a busy building is much harder than getting one robot to do one job. The robots need to navigate around guests and keep running without breaking down.

What Could Go Wrong?

These types of projects come with multiple challenges. The same is the case with this one. It may have the following concerns that are worth watching:

Guest experience: It is quite common that not everyone is comfortable with robot interactions. This is especially important when dealing with older people or those with any kind of disabilities. This is where the hotel needs to pay attention and they must have a system where there is a simple way to reach a human if something goes wrong.

Technical hiccups: Robots can perform a task efficiently, but they are not as good as humans. They may fail to perform well when the lighting is bad or when they have to handle unusual luggage bags. They may struggle with that, and once a hotel is live, things can get worse if it continues.

Safety and rules: Chinese safety regulations can significantly affect the deployment timeline of these robots. So, human oversight is still necessary during this phase.

What Comes Next?

Pudu has other plans too. They just want to expand their services to the entire area over the next four years. What can you expect from that? That means you can expect to see robot-operated shops, transportation, and other services too.

The thing is, how these robots are going to perform during their trial in late 2026. If they successfully handle everything, more hotels are expected to shift to this pattern of robot-run operations. If something goes wrong, this will show how much improvement is still needed.

Either way, the hospitality industry will be watching closely.
