Enact Intelligence Raises $30M for Development of Force-Aware Robots

Zurich-based firm co-founded by ex-1X robotics engineer will leverage force sensing using actuators of robots to enable better manipulation within industrial settings.

ZURICH, Switzerland -- Enact Intelligence has raised $30 million pre-seed investment to develop AI that would enable robots to detect force and physical touch, securing investments from leading experts in the field of AI research as well as European venture capitalists.

The company disclosed the news on Oct. 22 as it came out of stealth mode. Among its investors are Redalpine, Notion Capital and Firstminute Capital, along with individual investors like Yann LeCun, Mistral AI CEO Arthur Mensch, Hugging Face co-founder Thomas Wolf and Path Robotics founder Andrew Lonsberry.

Founded by Manuel Yves Galliker in March 2026, Enact is working on building technology which can measure force using actuators of robots, the moving parts of robots.

Rather than using cameras or separate force sensors for robots, the company aims to enable robots to detect physical resistance using their own motors and control mechanism. According to Enact, such a system can be termed as artificial nervous system for robots.
In the first place, the use case will be assembly tasks like plug insertion and screw driving where there is a need for precise control of contact forces, especially where the position and fit of parts vary.

The company is working on its actuators as well as the AI models and data acquisition systems instead of providing software for existing robots. The company intends to utilize the raised funds for staffing and collection of training data for force-aware robot control.

Galliker was in charge of the software development of the NE0 humanoid at Norwegian robotics company 1X and then joined Physical Intelligence, a U.S.-based start-up that provides general-purpose robot AI models.

There are no comparative performance figures from Enact showing a benefit of their method over tactile sensing. There are also no commercial clients or pricing or scheduling plans.
