Maximo Claims New Robot System Boosts Installation Productivity 2.5 Times

The Max 4.0 platform combines AI-based robot control, specialized construction hardware and fleet management software to accelerate solar module installation.

ARLINGTON, Va. -- Solar construction crews using the new Max 4.0 robotic system from Maximo Robotics have improved their metrics compared to manual installation as the firm ramps up its robotic business in the United States.

The firm announced Oct. 29 that its Max 4.0 workers have registered a productivity improvement of 2.5 times per person-hour per shift. These numbers have not been independently verified.

Maximo’s robots automatically install heavy solar modules on mounting hardware, cutting down on the repetitive lifting process needed by workers.

The Max 4.0 system includes three elements: Cortex, which provides AI perception and motion planning; Form, which provides robotic hardware and specialized tooling; and IQ, which controls the fleet and performance monitoring.
According to Maximo, data gathered through construction tasks help train its AI models and optimize future robot operations.

Maximo claims its robots have performed more than 300,000 construction tasks in robotics-as-a-service agreements where customers are billed based on completion of construction tasks rather than purchasing the equipment.

The manufacturer works with six engineering, procurement and construction companies for projects in seven U.S. states. One of its clients, Primoris Services Corp.'s renewables division, helped incorporate the technology into its solar installation process.

Maximo also reported an advanced sales pipeline for more than 3 million construction tasks estimated for 2027, equating to 1.5 gigawatt solar installation capacity. The figures are based on potential rather than actual order flow.

The company plans to expand beyond solar module installation with robotic services for attachment operations, material handling and other construction activities.

There are no details from Maximo about the number of Max 4.0 robots deployed at construction sites and measurements of their efficiency that would show how much faster the new generation is compared with Max 3.0.
