XPeng Opens Automated Production Line For IRON Humanoid
The EV maker says more than 80% of core processes are automated, but has not disclosed production capacity.

GUANGZHOU, China — XPeng Inc. said its first production line for the IRON humanoid robot is operating, moving the machine beyond prototype assembly as the company prepares for mass production by the end of 2026.
An IRON unit completed the manufacturing process and walked off the line without assistance, according to XPeng’s Sept. 7 announcement. The Guangzhou-based company released images and a video of the event, but did not provide production figures, the line’s capacity or its location.
XPeng is best known as an electric vehicle manufacturer, but humanoid robots have become a separate investment target for the company. Its robotics business signed share purchase agreements in August to raise more than $900 million in equity financing at a post-money valuation exceeding $6.3 billion.
The EV manufacturer said then it would remain the controlling shareholder after the financing closed, planning to use the proceeds for hardware and software development, AI model training, data collection, production facilities and commercial expansion.
The company said Monday that more than 80% of the core IRON’s manufacturing processes are automated. XPeng, which is applying production methods developed for its electric vehicle business, described the facility as an automotive-grade manufacturing operation designed to support higher output.
XPeng plans to begin mass production by the end of 2026, initially placing robots in its own stores and campuses. A formal market launch and deliveries in China and overseas are planned for 2027. The company has not disclosed IRON’s price, order volume or named any external customers.
IRON has 76 degrees of freedom across its body and 21 in each hand, according to XPeng. The robot uses three of the company’s Turing AI chips, which XPeng says provide as much as 2,250 trillion operations per second of computing performance. The company claims its physical AI model can run directly on the robot and support autonomous tasks without remote operation. Those specifications and capabilities have not been independently verified.
