Tutor Intelligence Raises $75M for AI Warehouse Robots

The funding will support robot foundation model training and production of two warehouse robots assisted by human operators.

WATERTOWN, Mass. -- U.S. startup Tutor Intelligence, which specializes in developing AI-powered robots for warehouses and manufacturing companies, has raised $75 million in Series B funding round to accelerate its production and implementation processes.

The startup made the announcement on Nov. 2 and said that Andreessen Horowitz is the lead investor of the new fundraise. Union Square Ventures and Neo, which were behind the previous Series A and seed investments in Tutor, also joined the round. As a result, Tutor has now raised a total of $117 million to date.

The startup will invest the proceeds into training robot foundation models and producing additional units of its two robot workers named Sonny and Cassie.

The Cassie robot is a mobile robot with a single arm that is used to pick up the boxes and place them on or take them from the pallets. Sonny is a robot with two arms that is used to move individual products, such as picking them for an e-commerce order.

Both robots have AI models created by Tutor, however, they do not work fully autonomously since remote human operators assist the process.
The company also provides an alternative payment system when compared to the traditional robot sales. People get charged for time spent on work or items retrieved using the robot but do not purchase the device itself. The company deals with all installation and maintenance.

According to Tutor, its robots currently run in almost four times as many facilities as a year ago, and one third of those who got their robots over the last 12 months are returning clients who purchased additional machines.

The company plans to reach over 1,000 robots under contract by 2027. The number of robots owned by Tutor, revenue, and valuation is unknown.
