About the 16U Satellite

GITAI's 16U Satellite (GITAI SC1) is an in-house-developed 16U CubeSat technology demonstration satellite, launched December 2024 aboard SpaceX's Falcon 9 Bandwagon-2 mission. It successfully validated GITAI's custom spacecraft bus and control systems by deploying a tethered target and observing it via cameras, LiDAR, and a laser rangefinder, achieving "Full Success" across all three mission criteria (communication, system functionality, and data acquisition). GITAI states the ~20kg satellite bus can be manufactured and sold for approximately $1 million with a 6-month lead time, serving as a precursor to the company's planned on-orbit servicing satellite products.
