Universal Robots Launches Gen 7 Platform With Three New Cobot Arms

CHICAGO — Universal Robots introduced its seventh-generation robotics platform at IMTS 2026 on Sept. 14, adding three collaborative robot arms and redesigned control hardware intended to simplify the integration of vision, sensing and external AI systems.

The new g-Series consists of the UR10g-1750, UR17g-1300 and UR18g-950. The model names indicate each arm’s payload in kilograms and reach in millimeters. The robots join Universal Robots’ existing e-Series and UR Series rather than replacing them, the company reported.

Gen 7 is built around PolyScope X, Universal Robots’ robot operating system, and includes a reengineered controller, teach pendant and tool flange. The platform is on display at the International Manufacturing Technology Show in Chicago with applications from more than 20 Universal Robots partners.

The new tool flange provides data, power and safety connections for cameras and other sensors. The Odense, Denmark-based, Universal Robots said the design reduces the need for external cabling and supports the real-time vision and sensing required by some AI-based applications.

Built-in force-torque sensing and impedance control are intended for work such as force-sensitive assembly and dexterous manipulation. Those capabilities do not establish that the robots can autonomously perform general industrial tasks. The applications shown at IMTS are trade show demonstrations, not confirmed customer deployments.

Universal Robots also introduced the CB7 Core controller, which it says provides 40% more computing power in a housing that is 30% smaller than the previous generation. The controller can communicate with programmable logic controllers, manufacturing execution systems, industrial computers, human-machine interfaces and vision equipment across multiple networks.

The CB7 is available in a standalone control box and a compact version for installation in an automation cabinet, according to the company. It is also compatible with e-Series and UR Series arms, allowing customers to upgrade their control hardware without buying new robot arms.

PolyScope X supports open application programming interfaces and communication through ROS 2, allowing developers to connect external AI processors and industrial computers. Universal Robots said the platform meets ISO 10218-1 and UL 1740 requirements. Its safety architecture is certified to Performance Level d, Category 3, under ISO 13849-1.

Universal Robots has not disclosed prices for the new arms or identified customers using them in regular production. The company also has not published independent results comparing Gen 7’s installation time, reliability or operating performance with those of its earlier platforms.
